The River Township

Living in Nockamixon Township, Bucks County

A Delaware River township of ridge country and hamlets — and, despite the name, not the home of Nockamixon State Park.

Nockamixon Township is a river municipality, not a lake one, and that distinction trips up almost everyone. The township runs along the Delaware in the county’s upper reaches, opposite New Jersey, through a landscape of wooded ridges, creek valleys, and small villages: Revere, Ferndale, Bucksville, Harrow, and Kintnersville, which it shares with Durham Township.

Nockamixon State Park, confusingly, is not here — the park lies in Bedminster and Haycock townships to the southwest. What this township has instead is the river, Route 611 running along it, Gallows Run, and some of the most dramatic terrain in Bucks County, with the Palisades school district tying it to the other upper river communities.

Living Here

What to expect when you move to Nockamixon Township

The people & the pace

Expect winding river road, wooded ridges, and villages rather than shopping. Nockamixon suits buyers who want dramatic countryside and river proximity, with Easton and Doylestown each a real drive away and that being the point.

The homes

The stock is rural and historic — stone farmhouses, village houses, wooded properties on acreage, and a limited number of river-oriented homes. Wells and on-lot septic systems are the norm, and steep, wooded sites make access, drainage, and driveway maintenance genuine considerations. Values generally sit well below the New Hope river corridor for comparable frontage.

Getting around

Route 611 follows the river — Easton in roughly 25 minutes, Doylestown in about 30, and Quakertown around 25. I-78 at Easton serves New York-bound drivers; Philadelphia is well over an hour. This is a township where the commute is a deliberate trade.
